Week 12 - Sunday Long Run
Run: 22 miles 3:11:37/ 8:43 pace. Today definitely did not come easily, but I got it done. My Dad met me at 6:00 am and we ran together to the park about 2 miles away. Once there, we split up and did our own thing until I got to 20 miles (lots of loops), and then we ran back home together. It was so nice having him out there with me. There was some sort of frisbee golf tournament going on and that part of the trail smelled faintly like…uhm… marijuana. Let’s just say, those guys seemed to be enjoying themselves a little more than my dad and me.
I wish I had been able to breeze through this run like my last 20-miler, but it just never came together. I am still pretty happy with the pace though. Per Pfitz, my pace is supposed to be 8:45-9:30, so I can’t complain. I am just wondering how I am supposed to run 8:00-8:05 pace on race day when this felt tough today, though. It’s a little disconcerting. We shall see.
I practiced my hydration and nutrition plan and I think I’ve got it figured out, so that is one more box to check off. I even wore my marathon race kit to test it out and there were no wardrobe malfunctions, check. So, all in all, it was a good run.
Afterward we had kolaches and watermelon which was just what the doctor ordered. Now I’ve got my legs up with my happy pink compression sleeves on. I can tell that I am going to be pretty useless today.
And with that, I am at 71 miles for the week!! My highest ever!
